Xperia Z2 Unlock Bootloader Allowed No

I'll just get right to it. When I enter the service menu, it tells me that: unlock bootloader allowed: no. I cannot unlock my bootloader. Now, nobody seems to know of any solutions to this problem. I know it is the carriers that are at fault, but I just want to know if it is *possible* to unlock my bootloader. If not, I will have to return this device for one that is more developer friendly. I love the phone, but can't use it without an unlocked bootloader. Sony needs to fix this.

I sent this email to Sony developer world a few weeks ago, and they haven't responded.

Hi there,

I'll cut right to the chase. When I enter the service menu on my Xperia Z2, I discover they rooting status is set to "bootloader unlock allowed: no". This means that I am blocked by Sony from unlocking the bootloader on the phone that *I* own.

Don't tell me it's the carrier's fault (Bell BTW), because I know that you have the tools to change this setting, no matter how complicated the process may be.

I know that this has been done before, as evidenced by this Talk Sony thread a while ago: http://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/Android-development/Bootloader-unlock-allowed-No-SONY-solve-it-please/...

Why is this possible to do for one carrier but not another? This is ridiculous. Why shouldn't I be able to do whatever I want with the device that I paid for? The phone is SIM unlocked and everything.

When Sony no longer supports firmware updates for my Z2, then what can I do? I will be unable to flash any custom roms and will be stuck on whatever version of Android you decide to leave me with! This is a huge security risk number 1, and number 2 it's just a huge inconvenience.

This will be a country or network imposed restriction

Yes, and? What am I to do when Sony stops updating my device? Why is the device that I own subject to these restrictions? It's a bit ridiculous.

That's something you'd have to ask your networks as I'm not privileged to the laws of your land

So let me get this straight, it is the networks that are at fault for an issue with Sony devices only? I think they are both to blame.

Morning.

Have spoken to Xperia support with no success.

Have changed my Z1 to a Z2, and am unable to unlock the bootloader.

Bootloader unlock allowed = NO.

There must be a way around this? The phone is 100% mine, not on a contract, etc.

You already had a thread about this on Z1. I will move this one there, there is no need to start a new thread and have the same answers.

EDIT: Moved to a similar section in Z2.

The only way I've heard of this been done is at a service centre as they would need to re-program the eeprom, But if it's to root your device then you may not need to have your bootloader unlocked

Id like to root and flash custom roms, I believe that cannot be done with the B/L Locked (only standard root?)
