Xperia Z1 Compact camera issue/freeze

The camera sometimes is not working. Once i tap the button, it will freeze and i need to lock and unlock the phone to see if it captures; however, there are no photos captured.

May I ask on what the problem is? is this a hardware issue or software issue?

Thanks

I've been having the same issue since the upgrade but tried the suggestion in this thread:
http://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/Xperia-Z1-Compact/Sony-z1-compact-camera-freeze/m-p/651005

Somebody suggested that you blow out the data/cache for all camera apps. I tried it and it's actually stable (at least for now); haven't had any freezes or crashes with the camera.

It does work, but only temporarily. So the issue still remains.

I dont have any third party apps installed and I am facing this issue from Day 1. Mine came with Kitkat straight out of the box. Disaappointing to note that instead of fixing the issue you are recommending us to do all sort of stuff. Pls take cognizance of the issue and  fix this ASAP

Sony always recommand to use safe mode for every issue report before they really test the bug...

My name is Matt, from the uk.. Since "upgrading" to the kitkat software I have had nothing but trouble...

First of all when I unlock my phone the background and icons take a few seconds to load and do so in stages.. The alarm goes off in the morning and sometimes even after I press snooze or dismiss it still keeps playing the alarm tone!

Second my phone gets so hot I could fry an egg on it and I'm not really doing anything to give it a work out!

Third and worst is the camera.. Freezes all the time.. Incredibly frustrating especially when your in a situation when you cant "do another shot" the only way to get out of the frozen camera is to either lock your phone or press the red reset button... For a new smartphone, that costs as much as it does I find this un acceptable!

Please fix these issues Sony or I'm buying an iPhone.. And while your at it.. Make it so that when your timer goes off it comes up on your screen for you to dismiss rather than having to unlock (a buggy) phone then dismissing the alarm.. Every other manufacturer does it.

I'm really frustrated..

Ps: I've tried running my phone in safe mode etc etc but the bottom line is I SHOULDNT HAVE TO

Happened first time to me too. It froze after I tried to zoom in in auto mode. Only one occurrence.

I rebooted the phone in safe mode, the problem was somehow solved (I say somehow because i just checked it for 1 minute). But in the normal mode the problem still exists. So how can I figure out what this third party app is? What should I do in order to remove or uninstaI the app and tackle the problem? Actually I don't have any other apps for taking pictures. You said first do this, OK now what?
