Hi all,
I had no sound from M5's headphone jack running .46 firmware.
No amount of wingling or using a toothpick helped. I tried a factory reset and a firmware update via the Sony PC software.
Running the SoundAbout app actually shows that the jack works, but that the phone does not automatically route sounds there for media or calls. This app allowed all media programs and calls to work as expected, but require user intervention to switch between speakers.
I therefore swapped the phone for a new one from the network operator as it was within 3 weeks. I only actually used the socket for the first time the day before I exchanged the phone so I don't know if the first phone worked on the shipped firmware.
I am now on .33 firmware.
On this new device sound is automatically routed to the socket, but there is a noticable delay, say 2 seconds, from after any headphones being securely pushed into position.
My concern is that this is a firmware related issue.
1) How long does it take for sound to switch from loudspeaker to headphone on your phone?
2) How likely is it that the Network's customisation of the firmware is at fault?
3) How risky is it for me to get the problem again if I update to .46?
1.) a 1-2 seconds delay isn't really that noticeable for me., its even longer when you have events activated at smart connect app
2.) more likely since they are the last persons to touch and customize your software before it get's released to your device
3.) if possible try to update the device while you are in store, so that the customer reps would be able to see the problem first hand

3) that is a great idea
As for 2) do we know how exactly this works? As the delpoyment of firmware is handled by Sony servers, I wonder if they conduct a QA on custom network firmware.
