Remote Share FTP/SFTP

What is Remote Share under Storage Settings for? I tried to connect to a remote SFTP server and it works. How can I take advantage of that in my applications on Z1? I do no find anything about this in the User Manual.

HI, I successfully mounted a shared SFTP folder under /storage/removable/remote. When a connection is stablished, the mobile asks for an application to handle it. You can select the File Commander preinstalled application. This is great if what you want is one-time navigation, but is useless for anything else: Once you close the File Commander, you cannot longer access to that folder again unless you switch off and on the SFTP mount. Even more, you cannot reach that folder from any regular application (except from those applications typically for rooted phones)

I would like to see the SFTP mounted folder under the "Remote FIles" tab in the File Commander, but I suppose this is a request for MobiSystems and not for Sony...

Hi and welcome to the community! Since you're new please be sure that you have checked out our Discussion guidelines.

I'm sorry that you haven't got an earlier reply.

The Remote shares function allows you to create, copy, and move files between local and remote file systems using a file manager application or the Browse button in the notification bar. Depending on your current software version, you can also use the Album application to browse your photos that are stored on your server. If you go to My albums, your server should show up there as an album.

File manager applications are available on Google play and they allow you to  browse your remote share files and open them as if they were on, for example, the SD card.

The remote share must be set up in such a way that  you can access it from the phone or tablet. For example, for SFTP, port forwarding must be set up correctly, and for CIFS/SMB connections, all devices must be on the same network.

To add a remote share

  1. From your Home screen, tap the Application screen icon.
  2. Go to Settings > Storage > Remote shares.
  3. Tap the sign.
  4. Fill out the required information.
  5. Tap Save.
