Problem with my keyboard?

Problem with my keyboard?

My Xperia U isnt even a year old and it is running android Gingerbread however I have a problem with my keyboard. It lags, is unresponsive and is just plain annoying. It wasnt like this until about a month ago. I believe it could be from some apps like VIber and Whatsapp because that is where a problem with the keyboard originated. I was typing a message to a friend on Viber and all of a sudden the keyboard kept typing on its own, it kept pressing the E or M key continuously and i could do nothing to stop it. I then left the app and my phone froze. I then proceeded to taking the battery out because nothing would switch it off. now my phone keyboard is stuffed up. i try to type and keys either wont respond so i have to keep pressing them to work or i will try to press a key but it will press the ones next to them. I seriously have my finger right on top of, say, the "i" key and it will keep pressing "u" or "o" and im dead set serious im pressing the i key, sometimes i try to press the "m" key and it will press backspace instead and i have my finger right on top of "m" yet it still presses back space. I feel like throwing my phone against a brick wall. Its so annoying.

I've tried resetting my phone to factory settings, resetting the software and it worked for a bit and then it messed up again. Could it be a virus? or is something wrong with my actual phone. Ive heard people upgrading to ICS have had problems so im not going to try and upgrade my phone. SHould I just delete viber? i redownloaded it the other day....maybe i should delete it. But i find it strange how those types of messaging apps seem to be the problem. Ok im deleting the app..i only got Viber to message my friends for free whilst at home and its easier to send them pictures. I have viber on my ipod touch 2nd gen but its so tedious to send my friends pictures off my phone cos i have to email them to myself, open them on my ipod, download them etc etc. But im sure this problem wont go away if i just delete the app.

So yeah, I'm really fed up with my keyboard. As i said before, it lags, it is unresponsive and it is so tedious to type with. it takes me 10x longer to type a messsage or a tweet now, unlike before when I could type quickly with no problem. Crying_Face

If any of you have had the same problem please share your thoughts and what you did to fix it. I thought I'd come here first to see if anyone has had this problem and found a fix to it before going to the store to get it fixed. Im just scared that they will try and fix it but the problem will still be there, using up my warranty. Like I dont want them replacing something only to find that there was something wrong with something else in my phone.

I hope this problem is fixable without having to send it away or get a new one cos this was a birthday present for my 15th birthday and its my first smartphone. Atm i am wanting my old nokia 5000 back because this is just so ANNOYING!!! Angry_Face

thanks for any help you guys can provide :3

Can you please advise if there has been any change in performance since uninstalling the app?

Hi Sam, iv deleted the apps, it's gotten worse. This keyboard problem happens more frequently now. It starts typing on it's own a lot more frequently, whether it be on the lock screen, typing a text message or creating a tweet 😕 it types by itself and doesn't respond 😕 it's bugging me so much. This only started this year last year and up until march/April my phone was working well and I've had no complaints. Now, my phone messes around. I wasn't even touching the screen while in the browser and it was zooming in and out on it's own, I wasn't touching the screen at all and it kept opening up the menu that pops up when you hold your finger down on the homescreen and also went into that overview thing when you have all the widgets on My homescreens come together. I try restarting my phone but it still happens. It's rather annoyig as I can't use this phone for the reason I bought it. To be able to text people, send tweets and emails and the like all on one device at ease 😕 it's such a hassle to type anything on this phone Slightly_frowning_Face and what's worse is it was a birthday present and it isn't working properly :'( I tried some screen tests and te results were rather surprising. What I did was get a drawing app, draw lines all over it screen and saw some areas dont even work! I'm not sure if that is related to this typing on it's own problem. If u want me to include the screenshots just tell me and I'll post them up. Another thing I noticed was that when I open up the camera, there is a purple spot in the screen and my photos now have a purple spot in them Slightly_frowning_Face  What is wrong with my phone? Is there a fix to it? It still runs on gingerbread but I'm just so Sick of encountering all of these problems on my precious phone which at one stage worked absolutely perfectly. So I don't think it was because of the apps. What should I do? I miss the old days when my phone worked perfectly :'(

I've heard of these problems before on XDA

The only solution might be to fix your firmware using Sony PC Companion.

Also, I don't know if you do, but, using paid apps downloaded from "somewhere else" might cause your keyboard problems. Guys who crack paid apps and post them on various pirate sites, sometimes "modify" the code inside the app in order for it to pull data off of your phone, and sometimes to harm it. Although the harmful ones tend to get picked out pretty quickly, and sufficient warnings are usually posted to keep people from downloading them.

Anyway, try reinstalling your firmware.

As far as the purple spot in your camera, if reinstalling the firmware doesn't get rid of it, then it's a hardware problem. If it is, then try returning it on warranty if possible.

Hi, thanks for the advice. No, I only download apps from the playstore. I am not really bothered about buying apps anymore either, I always used to buy apps if they were worth it on my iPod touch...but that's dying now too cos it's te 2nd gen one and I can't download apps anymore cos it's still on iOS 4.2.3 or somethig-.- . I just download free ones if I'm interested like temple run and angry birds and twitter. In fact I don't even know how o buy apps off The playstore Face_with_stuck-out_Tongue Face_with_stuck-out_Tongue

Oh, so do I just connect my phone to my laptop  and go to PC companion? How do I reinstall the firmware? I don't want to accidentally do something to my phone and stuff it up forever you see..

If I reinstall the firmware, it wont change my phone to ICS or anything will it? I just don't wanna mess up my phone more seeing as people who have updated theirs to ICS have also had problems..and I don't need anymore problems with this phone Face_with_stuck-out_Tongue

Ok, so if my camera still has the spot after reinstalling the firmware it is a hardware issue? Where do I go to fix that? Do I go to a Sony service center or to the shop I bought it at? I think my dad bought it at Dick Smith..are there even Sony service Centers in sydney? Idk where they are. Would my warranty still be Valid because I bought my phone around Late august/early September last year. It was a magnificent phone until march/April this year :'( I miss the old days D;

Thanks again for the advice.

If you're familiar with XDA http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1728 you may ask other users for a copy of original Gingerbread firmware. I'm sure it's available in one of the posts. If you try to reinstall the firmware using Sony PC Companion it will automatically update to the latest available ICS 4.0.4. Either way if you update to ICS or reinstall Gingerbread, and your problems still persist, then return your phone at the place of purchase using your warranty (good for 2 years since purchase date), and claim a Camera related Hardware Failure (describing the dot problem, and attach some photos if possible showing the dot), and also state that the problem could not be solved using Sony PC Companion update and fix. Also, take down the IMEI number of your phone, to make sure you're given a new phone.

Wont that void my warranty though? i mean, looking for another version of gingerbread on the internet?

if i go to my sony center and tell them i have two problems.... the keyboard and camera problem, will they both be covered by warranty or will i have to pay? like its my screen actually, i tried drawing on snapchat...couldnt, ended up as a bunch of broken lines. when i type, its a pain and my camera still has a purple spot. my god i just wanna kill my phone. i dont know whether to update it to ics or not...i am sure that updating wont help because ive done the screen tests and im sure its the digitizer or something. its such a pain to use this phone, i cant even use it to text. now i cant even press the 'n' or 'i' button cos it will always press "u" and "o" but never I and with the "n" button it always presses "b" no matter what GRRRRR so annoying....
