Sony Tablet ICS April/May (UK&Europe) My Thoughs & Feelings + more

OK lets start right from the beginning:

Hi all, (long post SORRY!!)

I am a huge Sony fan! (I wont say was as you are just about clinging on to me by a thread)

From the MDRZX700's which I reviewed very favrouable on youtube, to the Vita. From My TV and amp to my Xperia S.. I have collected lots and more along the way, my friends have dubbed me the sony wh*re but im getting just ever so slightly disapointed now...

I dont have a problem with different roll out dates for software nor do I have a problem with my country getting any software updates later than others. (I do live in the UK and according to certain reports Sonys sale are made up greatly from the UK's custom).

What I have a problem with is the left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing mentality. When Sony US decided to release ICS in April for USA Tablet S devices it should have spoken with other divisions of sony around the world before making the statement that ICS was been rolled out. And then an official line should have been agreed upon.

This head in the sand attitude adopted by sony is what is really driving fans mad.

I can see Sony is on a bit of a turn around at the moment with some interesting ideas set in place for their phones and I can see they are making a push to reclaim the top spot after maybe a slight wobble. What appear to be tiny things like a software update really matter, dont let lack of communication be what slips up sony.

I dont want to speak on the behalf of others as I dont have the right, however all I would greatfuly ask for is:

Upfront and clear communication, On your select ap page here in the UK you still have posts on it from last year..!! Just looks dated someone needs to work on info/bumf news and post weekly!!! Even if its  just to say check out our new Xperia GX etc..

Make everything gel together better, I can see you are trying to do this with the passport idea but its still messy..

Software with Sony plays a key part (not talking android here) and in the past I mself who studied electonic eng at uni have felt like banging my head against a screen or two.

Learn to commuincate with your customers, be creative and inspirational.. Lead dont follow. You can take Apple etc on you just need the right people and at this moment in time I think this is whats sadly missing. Men in suits, rather than out of the box thinkers who can commuincate with the many rather than the stuffy old few.

OK OK I have waffled enough now...

All im saying is learn to communicate better because if you can almost loose an utter sony nut like me then you can easily lose anybody.

(For anyone who wants to add I can root it, Yip I can but I dont want to.. I am happy to have a warrenty and doing so voids it. Also is it really my responsibility? If we take a look at ICS on the Tablet S it does from early reports fix things that should have been fine with the tablet S in the first place like its ability to forget your Wifi in a second. I should not have to work around problems a bit like the flash viewing/dont get me started on adroids fragmentation with so many other devices).

To the moderator I hear sony dont really view these sites, I do guess that you must commuincate to them from time to time so if you wouldnt mind stressing the feelings of the forum that would be great.

to finish, this is more of a plea really to Sony but i feel we a treading a never ending circle... I dont really want to go else where.. start to listen...

thank you for your time sony and the forum

sorry to rant!!!

fingers crossed one light bulb goes on @ Sony HQ and  an exec think I see it all we needed to say was we are just finalising the Europe update lets keep the fans updated... also never be affraid to say sorry its not a mark of weakness its a sign youve listened

im also interested to hear others thoughts on this subject...

Sony simply finds Europe difficult: many countries, many languages, many different ISP's/networks/content providers, regulations, legal-stuff between countries and multinational content providers, etc. etc.

it is one of the reasons they roll out in Japan and then USA first.

it is the reason that the European country-by-country releases tend to get delayed.

The regional differences go for the ICS update, but also for Apps that come with the Tablet.

I think Sony doesn't want to roll out ICS for individual countries soon-as-it-is-ready - that would trigger even more complaints on even more forums from users from waiting countries for which the update is not yet ready :smileyhappy:. Remember: this was the response to the way the Tablet S was launched last year.

Instead, for ICS with all the updated Apps, I think Sony wants to release it for all the European countries at once. I guess we are waiting for the last ICS-app updates for certain countries to be approved and ready for release, and Sony has stumbled on some delay in that last phase. It shouldn't be too long anymore before it comes.

i am from spain and think the same of you. I think it's incredible that a company like sony dont give any information about upgrades in all the ce. And more knowing that english and spanish versions are available in america.

No matter how hard ive been trying today i can't get Sony's attention. Still I will persevere 🙂

Take care all, busy day travelling... 😮

Whilst I agree with everything been said above its not so much about ics, it's the lack of comms from Sony.  I understand the difficulty with Europe been multi-lingual etc.. but there is no excuse for no updates in the sense of a few lines.. Samsung learned very quickly about upsetting its customers (I must add I love sony though and do feel that samsung to tend to follow in terms of style, iphone/samsung anyone, still these are just my thoughts) or better communication regarding ics and many other subjects...

You only have to take a few minutes on most threads and forums to see the feelings of Sonys customer... Must it always be us that does the leg work?

You only have to view this thread to see just how unhappy fans are and you only have to look at yesterday's losses to see the effect. Will edit better on arrival home... Least I can update even on the move.

Sony better hurry cos they are really starting to p*ss people off... they do not even state the current situation, terrible customer service. And they wonder why Samsung are the dominant player when it comes to Android... jsut remember Sony.. Nokia were No.1 once too - look at them now... they ignored their customers and now they are quite pathetic.

Dont think i will be buying anymore Sony products for a while now.... Sweden never seems to get the update either, and also the " playstation store" doesn't exist in sweden either... you only get the crash bandicot game and the other "Playstation games" that u can find in the "Google play" isnt available in this country... thats pretty messed up 2, since a big reason that i wanted this was for the playstation thing...... really dissapointed in all matters at sony...

Well good morning all, pleased you got my link yorkie and thanks for your kind words on the headphone review. Nothing more to report other than I checked again this morn and no updates. Emailed stuff and T3 magazine, UK's biggest tech mags over here. I thought they may have closer links with Sony than this forum appears to do..

Hi guys,

UK user here, hoping its released before I goto america.

I fly which is on 25th May,  very poor service from Sony on this.

Again I am a all Sony guy at home much like some of you.

I am very close to moving to an ipad due to the poor service for this, and for me thats a huge step.

I waited so long for a decent tablet, and when Sony announced the Tablet S I was so excited, but wireless dropouts rebooting and the like is really annoying me.

I have tweeted this page to @SonyUK by the way.

Heres hoping some good news comes this week.

Dan

I agree with most of you have said, and I support the idea of posting here until someone from Sony read that and reply us, I tried to talk with customer care (by chat) two times, it looks they have a preprepred (copy/paste) answer "we will inform our customers when the ICS is released"

I bought my tablet two months ago, I didn't have any doubt that a big name like Sony will be last to provide ICS as all android tablets manufacturer already did long time ago (even the ones that costs 150 euros !). so frustrating :slight_frown:
