Just read on Gizmodo (so will take with a HUGE amount of salt) but they are claiming it has been taken off the market due to waterproofing issues??
The UK store currently is all Out of Stock apart from the 3G version?
I'm a little worried now, might not use it in the kitchen as a cookbook substitute!!

Hi skimpychimpy,
welcome to Questions & Answers..
There is an announcement from Sony (see Below) on the Xperia support pages regarding the Xperia Tablet inspection program..
Notice for Xperia™ Tablet S released in September 2012
October 05th, 2012 Sony Corporation
Dear SONY customer,
We have identified that a limited number of Xperia™ Tablet S that were released in September 2012 may not meet the splash-proof specification due to a minor space between the display panel and the back of the product.
We are currently identifying the affected serial number ranges and are preparing a voluntary free inspection program for the impacted models. This issue will not affect your normal use and continued enjoyment of the product.
Further communication on the starting date for the free inspection program will be posted onto our SONY support pages together with the affected product serial number ranges as soon as we have them identified. We plan to commence the free inspection program as of the end of October so we can prepare and minimise the impact for you.

This seems arse backwards.
If there are faulty units which will be replaced then it doesn't matter if you get them wet today or tomorrow as a new one will be issued so who cares how they continue to be used?
Why announce this now and cause some panic?
Why not have the list of serial numbers ready first then contact those owners through direct and public announcement?

I don't think it backwards..
IMO Sony have 'identified that a limited number of Xperia Tablet S were released in September 2012 may not meet the splash-proof specification due to a minor space between the display panel and the back of the product.' & thought it wise to inform all of their customers as soon as possible..
Also IMO I guess in making the announcement regarding the fact that some Xperia tablets may not meet the splash proof specification, some owners may choose to limit the use of their tablets around water until they know whether there Xperia is among the affected serial numbers..
But I guess Sony are damned if they make the announcement & damned if they don't..:smileydevil:
Ah but the point I was trying to make is it doesn't make any difference if customers limit the amount of water around their tablets or not. If they fail because they're faulty around liquids they will be replaced anyway.
Better to just collect all the facts before making any annoucement and then proceed with the exchanges.
I couldn't say to my customers some of my products may be faulty and won't produce all the results you expect and paid for. However don't worry because I don't know which ones and just don't use it as advertised. I'll get back to you. Wrong approach in my mind.

As I said it's difficult because I know there have been threads on here from fellow users who have complained because Sony had been slow in giving out info..
However I guess we may have to agree to disagree on this..:smileyhappy:

Sony, as far as I am aware, have not stated not to use the Experia as advertised, as they have stated..
This issue will not affect your normal use and continued enjoyment of the product.
