Sony WH-1000XM3 Muting in the Cold

Is there a way to turn off gesture control on the 1000XM3s? It barely works in optimal conditions and when standing outisde in cold weather they will consistently register swipes (even though nothing has touched the headphones), either turning volume up/down or skipping tracks and after about 1 minute they will mute as if I am holding my hand over the right ear. Any suggestions?

I agree... the ANC is not great. Well I found it great for the first week or so, but since then I find that I can hear people talk or cough further down the train carriage on my commute.

Another thing is I think the preasure sensors are causing noice glitches. When my train doors open or the train goes into a tunnel there is a noticeable noice in the headphones, which I think is connected to the preasure changes.

Hi guys,

i wanted to buy XM3 but the cold issue is very disappointed, because I live in Europe. However, no answer from Sony is worse. Could anybody to recommend me alternativ headphones. Bose or what?

Thanks

I’m actually considering waiting for the XM4. I’m not too found of the Bose either, I’d like the XM3, but the bugs are a little... disheartening. Especially if by the end of the year, a new and improved model without these issues comes out and I’ve spend a few hundred bucks on a pair that does.

Someone mentioned the Audio Technica and the coming Beyer Dynamics NC headphones.

I checked both and the spec on the Audio Technica state an operating range from 5 to 40C, so even more restricted than the Sony XM3. Does it mean they used the same faulty piece of electronic that Sony used? Otherwise they look good, but have still a micro usb port (why?)
There are no spec listed yet for the Beyer Dynamics headset.

Tech reviewer MKBHD (with almost 8M subs) talked about this in his newest youtube video. Maybe leave a comment if you are experiencing the cold weather issue.

he even mentiones the issue in his video.

Just in case you missed it - here is a direct URL with a timestamp (he talks about it from 4:11 to 5:02, so about 10% of the videos duration😞

We can but hope they're listening! I had an email response to the case I opened with them. They do acknowledge the issue and have advised I will be contacted again when their investigation is complete... However, I only have so long to return them for a full refund, and given they've known about this issue for a while now, I'm not too optimistic I'll get the reassurance I need in good time.

The official article informing us about this is from December, so I certainly have hope left. What I hope for, is that they release an updated M3 quickly, after figuring out the issues and solving them, or even push the next model ahead for a release before/during the summer. I also really hope the plastic and color schemes stay the same, because although some liked the finish of the M2 better, I really want the smooth black and copper ones!

Sony, please, fix it soon or give some comments about resolving a problem!
