Sony WH-1000XM3 Comfort Issue

Hello all, I am the owner of a pair of Sony WH-1000XM3 headphones. They were very expensive priced at £240 but I read the reviews and they were all saying how excellent the headphones were so I took the very expensive plunge.

Having used them now for a few months, I can say the sound quality is excellent, they really make music sound so amazing, but the whole listening experience is being ruined by the discomfort I'm getting. My ear gets so hot and starts to get sore after only 20 mins and I get a sharp pain in my ear which only settles when I take the headphones off. I don't have this issue with any of the other headphones I have, just these.

I'm so frustrated at this issue, and I feel a little annoyed that I have paid such a large amount of money for something that is causing me actual physical pain. Does anyone know of any tips or advice which can help to fix this problem I'm having? Thanks in advance.

P.S I cant return the headphones unfortunately, I'm past the date.

Hi Shaun

Welcome to our Community.

Apart from adjusting the head band to fit your head, there's not much to do. If you feel the headphones press against your ears side ways, loosen them up a bit until the headband actually rests over your head than having the headphones hang to your ears.

I have come across videos on YouTube which reiterate 100% the issue I am having. The videos show how to modify the earcups, but I don't want to do this  1.  because I don't want to brake them or void the warranty and 2. I should not even have to, I paid  hundreds of pounds for these headphones this should not even be an issue?

Edwina, I can't listen to these headphones for longer than 20 mins due to the problems I have mentioned. The videos I have come across have been watched by thousands of people each looking for a way to resolve this issue. I had no idea until I bought them that this would even be a problem, I thought these kind of problems only occurred on cheap headphones, not premium headphones?

I can't see any other way but to ask for a refund directly from Sony. This looks to be a technical problem with no way of resolving the issue other than to modify the headphones and therefore voiding the warranty and I can't take that risk. It pains me to have to ask for a refund as the sound quality is amazing, but how can I justify paying such a large amount of money for something that I can only listen to for 20ish minutes before it causes me physical pain?

What are the procedures to ask Sony directly for a refund on my purchase? Thank you.
