I was given a TCD5M - essentially a reporter's tape recorder - over 40 years ago, when living in Europe.
It has been well cared for and runs, but has gradually become dull-sounding (despite cleaning and demagnetising) so I assume the tape head needs azimuth adjustment (?).
I also bought a 'professional walkman' (WM D6C) about 15 years ago, partly so I could do tape-to-tape transfers between the two. I would like to use a mains lead for this, but am told that they have circuitry that is extremely sensitive to voltages that are even slightly higher than specified for the device. I have a Sony power adaptor AC-456 C which I must have bought decades ago for the TCD5M. This was designed for European use, where mains current was 220V at the time. UK mains current came down from 240 to 230 about 20 years ago or so. But I don't know whether there would still be some risk to using this in the WM D6C.
I would love to be able to get advice on these matters from Sony, but to access technical support, you need to endter a product code and these items are too old to be listed on the site.
Is there any way to get hold of official advice on vintage Sony equiment?
Thanks for any thoughts!
