Welcome to ClubVAIO

There is no way to reinstall WinDVD without preforming a full system recovery. I would make some recovery disks using the VAIO Recovery Utility and back up all the important data.

Reboot the notebook and when you see the VAIO logo press f10 several times until you see the recovery mode screen. Follow the instructions and your laptop will be returned to the factory settings.

What do you think of the FZ series?

Im delighted with it so far.I bought it as i have moved to sweden for 2 months from London England and so far performance wise it has been fantastic.Very good graphics on the few games that i do run, very simple setup and probably the best laptop ive ever used.
Not to mention it looks visually stunning next to most others. So if i no longer have win dvd will my Blu-rays and dvds still run equally well on windows media player?Or would you suggest the factory reset is necessary?Id rather not as ive loaded it with several programmes now which i dont have the disks out here with me at the moment, but i will if i had to.

I know how iritating it can be to have to preform a recovery on your notebook as i have had to do it as well. As far as i know WMP does not have a capabilities to decode Bluray discs which is why WinDVD is supplied. I would have to say that if you want to be able to watch the movies then you will have to grit your teeth and do it but maybe since you don't have any of the software with you that you own then maybe you should wait until you do.

Glad to here that the FZ series is a success! Being brand new i have not had a chance to see one in the flesh yet but hopefully will get myself over to the sony centre soon to have a good look.

On the download page for the FZ11Z there's a download for WinDVD BD. Is that just an update or the full monty?

It's just an update Jumbles, not a full install.

The main problem here is that Sony are scared of piracy.

I have a vaio FZ11s.... I just thought that I would add my experience for matt's information. Apart from the few problems I have had on another post, The Fz series is very powerful! I didn't want to pay an extra £300 just for a Blue ray player....

It looks great but as I said only software infancy at the moment. The latest Direct X10.0 graphics is superior in many conditions however, it can only get better in 2 respects.

Full drivers are not released for these 8series graphics and secondly, Vista still has updates to deliver simply becasue they hardware is so new in this new range.

Thank you very much for your comments. I did here that the 8series graphics cards have been a long time coming as there were issues with power consumption and overall size so they are long overdue which may explain the lack of a fully tested driver. I doubt that it'll be too long before one is released.
