Virus software on my laptop

I had the nortan anti virus on my laptop for the trial period. Now that I have come out of the trial how do i completely stop the renewal messages and even get rid of Nortan so I dont get any pop ups.

I need to get a anti virus program anyways, any advice which one to go for. McAfee, Nortan or another product.

There is a tool available for removal of norton anti virus see here:

There are other threads in the forum which relate to this topic (search function does unfortunately not work) where the recommendation is to:
a) just do a simple de-installation of norton
b) use the removal tool
c) use a registry cleaner
