Hi - I am exploring the possibility of doing some upgrades on my notebook. I am not talking about HDD or Memory upgrade, but rather am thinking about upgrading the CPU. I am almost sure that the motherboard would be able to support a faster CPU.
I bought my Vaio VGN-AR41S about 6 months ago, since then its been replaced by another 3-4 models, all of which have some really killer specifications.
I paid a living fortune for my notebook, and I have no intention of just buying a whole new notebook, just to get a processor upgrade, I have browsed the web but can find very little information on upgrading these types of notebooks. Also due to the price of the notebook, I am not exactly just going to open it up and get cracking, because if anything goes wrong, I just don't have that kind of money to burn.
If any of you reading this have any experience with upgrading or using non Sony service centres to get the job done, I would like to hear your success stories, etc. Just to know it can be done.
Thanks
And surely every Vaio owner has at least at one point asked, can these things be upgraded?
I think most people accept that the major downside of a laptop is limited upgrades. Not many people ask about processors - most want to upgrade the graphics which is not possible.
Processors are possible. Have a look at this thread where patriciopat changes the processor on his bed!! Sorry it's in Portuguese English!!!!!!

Very awesome reply... this is the type of thing I am interested in....
I personally wouldn't be so bold as to mess around with 2000 pounds worth of Vaio on a bed and ruin the warranty....
But you can be sure that in a couple of years, I'll be taking my machine in to the most professional service centre I can find, and see if I can get the CPU replaced...
BTW - whats the deal with the gpu, are you 100% sure there is no chance of upgrading it?
I heard its just soldered in.... surely with enough effort this too can be upgraded?
