TZ31 WN/B downgrade issue, Modem not recognised, two device left to configure

I followed Sony's instructions to the letter when performing the downgrade:

http://support.vaio.sony.co.uk/os/xp/downgrade/info.asp?site=voe_en_GB_cons

However in step 4 I tried to install the Modem but the program couldn't find any modem installed.

In devices I am left with these two:

? Ethernet Controller
? PCI Device

Also I get an error installing Battery Care (it needs .NET installed) and on boot it cannot initialise OPT Drive Power Saving.EXE

Also in Windows Explorer, the Icon for "Memory Stick" is missing...

What fun....

Could anybody shed any light...

Much obliged...

Andrew.

got the exact same problem except the "? PCI Device"
I managed to find the solution to that one.
Just download the http://club.vaio.sony.co.uk/clubvaio/gb/en/forum/viewthread?thread=49761
and after installing it make a manual search for modem
drivers selecting the folder of the modem and will be left
with the LAN driver and the icon under "my computer".
still haven't figured out how to resolve that.

ok ... finally, I found the answer to the second threat ...
to install the LAN drivers, just insert the Win XP PRO
downgrade CD you used and let it search for drivers on auto!
It will find them and install them!!!
Marvell Yukon 88E8055 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller drivers
Didn't find the answer for the 3rd threat though.
Hope I do in time.

Found the solution...as usual Sony cannot help but meddle with the core of the software to "enhance their marketing experience"...anyway...do the following:

Once XP has reinstalled from the Recovery CD...DO NOT install drivers or applications...but first go to the "RECOVERYDISC" and find the XP_Downgrade folder...run Setup...

Only AFTER you have done this you should run the drivers in the order specified in the Forum topic on Vista Downgrade...

Hope this helps...and if you ever meet somebody from Sony...please kick them in the nuts for me...thanks!

you should first meet people from HP, Linksys (Cisco), Lenovo and others. Then rethink Sony's support
