I have a Vaio VGN SZ2M/B running Windows XP, the touchpad stops working at intermittent intervals, sometimes at startup, sometimes partway through a session.
When I check, the drivers seem to have disappeared. Any ideas what's happening and how to fix it?
TIA

Hi Carl,
But try this..
Press the windows key+R to open the Run box type devmgmt.msc and press OK
Click Continue on the User Account Control window.
Is there a pointing device or PS2 mouse listed..?
If you do not have a pointing device listed, then right click once on PS2 mouse and select Update Driver Software.
Select Browse my computer for driver software, then Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer
If 'Alps Pointing-device' (possibly Alps Pointing-device for Vaio) appears in the new window, select it and click next.. (if the 'Alps Pointing-device' does not appear in the list remove the tick from 'Show Compatible Hardware' and select Alps Electric from the Manufacturer column then 'Alps Pointing-device' (possibly Alps Pointing-device for Vaio) from the model column and then click next.
Follow the on screen instructions to finish..
