Hi . I wrote severaltimes to german forum but no answer. I cant install since days along WIN XP, so now i repend that I dont keep my old laptop Brand and repend that i bought Sony Vaio, coz its so complicated to install WIN XP..
With this so new model (AR-71S) you don't need Windows XP at all. Simply install the original Windows Vista. Nowadays there is no problems with this operating system because all the great problems it had on its begining have been resolved (unsless the 4GB Ram recognizion). Besides, its very easy to use and, indeed, it is very similar to Windows XP. The major differences are in how to locate the tools you normally used in Windows XP. For example, to open the Windows Explorer, you only have to click the sequence:
Start - Equipment, and so on.
I can help you if you have additional questions.

Hi sony4life and welcome to the English part of the forum.
Installing XP on a AR71S is a complicated task because Sony do not support XP on your model. This means if you have a problem requiring support from Sony or a repair under the warranty, you will have to reinstall Vista before Sony will help.
Sony do not hide this so you should have know this before you bought the AR71S. There are no XP drivers or Utilities for your model. Also you need to install a Media Centre Edition of XP or you will not be able to use the TV. None of the preinstalled software will work with XP. You cannot download the blu-ray player software for XP so you will also have to buy something like PowerDVD Ultra (100€) if you want to use the blu-ray drive. You may as well have bought a cheaper laptop.
Quite honestly, it will be cheaper and far easier to upgrade to CS3 than to buy and install XP Pro and the other software you will need to buy for XP. It will also be easier to get your Vaio to work properly.
If you really want to install XP it may be possible using the XP Drivers and Utilities released for the AR21S which was sold with XP MCE installed. The step-by-step process is described in this thread by costasp: -

You cannot boot from a XP Installation disc because XP does not support your SATA hard drives. You will have to install the SATA/RAID drivers during the XP install.

Hi thx for welcome and reply.
I dont think i need sony support. Since garantie not losing about hardware with OS Change. 100 euro isnt so much when i have to upgrade some software may they will between 2000-3000 euro. Blue ray, i hope i can read cd and dvd more this time i dont need blueray. I need a laptop where i can work coz blueray wasnt must for me.
Anyway i will keep to install XP coz I can always turn back to Vista. I still have 3 backup DVD. Just want try and lets see what will work and dont.
I know i dont have sony support for xp. its ok for me.
The main reason i choose this laptop was, CPU+RAM+Grafikcard+17 Monitor+HDD. I work with grafic+music+video software....
I will try xp then if i have problem will turn back again to vista..I have still 2 Windows XP Pro originaly software, i used it before with my earlier laptop and desktop pc. I can boot with xp. The problem is i think, like u said, i need drivers for sata/raid hhd. I will do that now...
Thx again for advices.
Sincerely sony4life
