sdw-086 dvd driver

I have a sony vaio VGN-N31M and my cd/dvd player wont work. I uninstalled the device driver but it did not help.

Can anyone suggest anything else?  I have not used it very much and just bought a new notebook without a dvd/cd player so was hoping to use my vaio for watching movies and films.

Hi paaristha13,

Are there any error codes against the device in Device Manager? If not then you could try cleaning the laser lens.

Unfortunately optical drive failure is common and usually requires replacement.
