In my laptop Sony VGN-A397XP I can not see anymore the DVD drive icon (in F), but only the CD icon. Also, i can not use/play/open any kind of dvd disc, but only cd's.
I looked up in Device Manager the SONY DVD RW DW-D56A and seems to be ok.
What can i do to solve this problem?
Thanks in advance
Have you installed any software prior to the disappearance?

Yes, but i've already unistalled it.
What was the software?
I am afraid whatever it was has done some registry key changing - not a major fix but knowing the program would help.
Is it XP or Vista?

I use XP professional. The program i installed and unistalled was RegistryBooster (Uniblue Software).
Try this - follow the instructions carefully.
I know that the problem described at the top is not the same as yours but i have also had this problem in the past and this fixed it.
Remember to uninstall all cd recording software prior to the registry fix and remember to back up your registry incase something goes wrong.
Good luck
Thanks. I'll try it.
But how to unistall al cd recording software? Do you mean, par example, sonic record now etc?
just programs such as Nero or Roxio.
If you can not uninstall them then don't worry about it. It just warns they may not work properly after the edit but i had no problems.

I followed all the instructions and i can not see any serious changes.
1. In F: I see only the CD drive and not the DVD-RW.
2. I can play professional dvds, but not mine in a stable way. I have to try again and again in order to play and see the contents of a dvd data i have written, or a dvd play that i've recorded.
I am wondering why the first (1) issue still happens.
Thanks
