Problem with DVD drive since clean install

I wonder if anybody can help me.

I recently done a clean install of Vista Ultimate from Home Premium on my AR-11M.

I installed all Drivers, BIOS and Firmware updates but the dvd drive just will not burn dvd's but it will burn audio cd's. Which i thought was strange?!!

Please somebody help because i got films i want to put onto dvd and its doing my head in...

I use Roxio Easy Media Creator 10 to burn dvd's and cd's if thats any help.

Thanks for any help in advance.

Hi Krooza,

All three of the dvd drives in your last two posts will fit OK. Basically any 12.7 mm slimline DVD drive will fit but I recommend you stick to Pioneer as this will make it more likely that the existing faceplate will fit.

For Hard Drives - yes again any 2.5 inch SATA drive with a physical size of 100 X 60 X 9.5 mm will fit. This will rule out drives over 300GB as these tend to be 12.5 mm thick. This is because the extra capacity means that 3 platters are needed instead of 2 making the drive so thick that it will not fit into any laptops - clever thinking Hitachi.

As your AR11M does not have a raid controller fitted you cannot run a RAID configuration so the discs do not have to be the same size. You can add a 300GB SATA disc to your existing 160GB disc.

EDIT: By the way, the Full HD sticker can be a little misleading. It means that your model can export 1080p HD video through the HDMI cable. Getting HD Video into the Vaio is not that easy though!

Recieved the ODD this morning all the way from Taiwan!!!

I went to remove the old ODD and there is one big well small problem...

I do not have any screwdrivers small enough to get the screws out!!!

Also is there anyway of putting the original mouldings onto the outside of the new ODD??

As for the moulding bit which im on about..

Old ODD with mouldings

New ODD without mouldings

New ODD installed (Looks odd without the original mouldings!)

Also which one is better?

I'm not 100% sure but I believe the face plate can be removed by gently un-clicking from your old drive and placed onto the face of your new drive..

I finally got round to looking at it and you were 100% right Thalamus. The face plate unclipped off my old ODD, then the face plate unclipped off my new ODD then the old face plate clipped straight onto my new ODD...

I was starting to dislike my Vaio without the original face plate but i love it again now!!!
