PCG-GRT916Z - CPU Speed Decreasing

My laptop when 1st booted shows running at normal speed which os 3.07ghz, but after 15-20mins the speed drops down to 1.6ghz? Is this correct or a fault somewhere ?

If it's a mobile processor then the speed will drop if the processor isn't doing any intensive work so it could be normal.

It could also be an overheating issue, in which case just give the fan a hoover or a blow through and see if the situation gets better.

If you go on power settings and set the processor to performance and then set the fan speed to performance, the speed should stay constant when it is plugged in
