I think Vaio Control Center/Vaio Audio Utility is causing problems. How do I bypass it for managing audio?

I've just tried properly using earphones with my Flip 14A for the first time and the experience was awful. Audio has an aliased/compressed quality, sounds distant or filters out speech. I think it might have something to do with Vaio Control Center/Vaio Audio Utility. When I've tried changing presets there, the audio quality changes (not consistently, either). How can I prevent these programs from having anything to do with the audio output of the device?
