Hi ya all, Im new here. I have a VAIO VGN-AR21M, and purchased it in late 2006. Im having some trouble with it, out of the blue and its really disrupting my university work.
The LCD screen has thin verticle coloured lines, which keep adding in a space of 2 days. nSecondly my applications seem to stop working right. Adobe doesnt work, the audio players dont really work, opening the internet explorer is also giving trouble.
I dont know whats wrong. Oh and the Anti-virus has stopped operating as well.
Please help me.

Hi zecure and welcome to Club Vaio.
It is difficult to resolve your problems easily - you seem to have quite a few! Let's try them one at a time.
I think your priority list should be: -
1. Get an antivirus program installed and carry out a full scan of your computer. If you need a new one, download the FREE version of AVG from here: -
http://www.avg-download-free.net/
In reviews it comes out as well as some you have to pay a lot for!
2. Download an AntiSpyware program and carry out a full scan. Try SpyBot - FREE from here: -

3. Make sure Windows Firewall is turned on.
4. Clear your computer and the registry of old junk and configure your Vaio to run more smoothly. Download the FREE (for 30 days) version of Tune-Up Utilities and run all the disc and registry cleaners, the other optimisiations etc.

5. Check for any uninstalled Microsoft updates on Windows Update Site
6. Check for any Sony updates to drivers and other software on Vaio Update. Specifically look for a Video driver update for your screen display problem.
7. If you still have a problem, it may be best to save your files and reinstall the original operating system using the Vaio Recovery Utility.
8. If all this fails then you will need to see a repairer!
Good Luck.
