I recently purchased the Sony Vaio laptop model VGN-NR38E on Windows Vista, yesterday i was burning off some home movies onto dvd when an error comes up and restarts the system, now the system wont boot up and i dont have the recovery discs to reinstall it. I've tried everything possible that it mentions in the manual etc pressing f10 booting up recovery, I waited 4hours after trying to recover the full system but nothing happened its as if it froze, I understand now I probably need recovery discs to do this, I haven't installed any new drivers or anything everything was as purchased. can anyone help me out or let me know what I have to do, I have only had this for 3 months and already started getting problems with it.
thanks
do you still havethe dvd drive when you look into computer if not contact sony uk i did and im up and running now,if you have lost the dvddrive go online to microsoft uk
I dont understand what you mean, I cant boot up the laptop at all, when i turn it on it just comes up there has been an error press ctrl+alt+del to restart and it just keeps doing this. I dont know what you mean by the dvd drive because i cant actually get into my computer to check as windows doesnt boot.
Hi mjo23
When you load up the computer what does the error message read? Also when you say you have done the full system recovery by pressing F10 at start up what did this result in?
One last thing had you downloaded anything just before this happened and what software was you using?
Mark.
doesnt show the error message anymore it just says "an error has occurred to restart press ctrl+alt+del" then keeps saying this everytime i start up the computer, I tried the full system recovery using f10 but it came up the blue vista screen reading "please wait while windows installs your computer" or something along those lines, i left the system for over 4 hours and it was still on that screen as if it had froze or was waiting on me putting in recovery discs or something, like i said i forgot to make the recovery discs when i purchased the laptop. looks like im snookered going to have to purchase a new system then, not a fan of vista if this is the trouble i have to go through 3mnths after buying a brand new laptop. I didnt install any upgrades, software or drivers at all, I was burning a dvd disc and the computer just shut off and hasnt been on since.
Hi mjo23,
welcome to Club VAIO..
Try resetting your BIOS and try the F10 recovery again.
To reset your BIOS restart your Vaio and Press F2 when you see the Vaio logo.
Wait for the BIOS to load
Then press F9 Setup Defaults
Ensure yes is highlighted and press enter to confirm
Then press F10 Save and Exit, ensure yes is highlighted and press enter to confirm.
then restart your Vaio and when you see the Vaio Logo press the F10 key repeatedly, hopefully this will start the recovery process..
Does that help.?
thanks for your replies but nothing worked, turns out i had to send the laptop back to Sony, I got it back today and everything is working fine, it was a hardware fault, Faulty Hard Drive it says on the invoice. its only 4 months old 😞 anyway at least I have made the recovery disks and restore point this time. thanks for the help
You're welcome, glad your vaio now been repaired and is working again..
