format disk error

Hi I have tried to format disks today and after it appears the action has worked an error message occurs stating windows is unable to complete the process - any suggestions as to what may be the problem?

What sort of discs are you trying to format?

What software are you using?

What Operating System are you running?

What model Vaio do you have?

just ordinary CD RW  700MB - I have used exactly the same in the past

I am using Vista on a Sony Vaio VGN-C2S - 4 years old so maybe a problem with the disk drive?
