I want to update the bios on my VGC-RT1SU so that I can enable virtualisation technology but the BIOS update that I downloaded from VAIO support Europe doesn't work, it just says "Thsi BIOS update is not supported on this computer" I have tried downloading BIOS updates for similar models as well but they dont work.
I have just upgraded to Win7 Ultimate 64x but the same update didn't work on Vista 32x
Below is the link to the support page of my model VAIO, i entered the serial number to get to it.

Any ideas?
Many Thanks in advance!

It rather sounds like the Q9400 processor does not support VT in its current configuration.
Have you downloaded the Intel® Processor Identification Utility to check if your Q9400 is VT capable?
http://www.intel.com/support/processors/tools/piu/sb/CS-014921.htm

Thanks for the fast response. I have used that intel utility and found that it does support VT technology but under the frequency test it says that the processor is an engineering sample and not a production processor. (Its an ex demo PC)
I can see that the utility would pick this up, but I dont see why there isn't a BIOS update that works and enables me to turn on VT. After all, the BIOS is just a chip on the mother board so maybe I could take the casing off and look for the manufacturer. Thats if there is no other option of course
So no-one can help? If anyone knows of any other place I might be able to download a BIOS update that would be good.
An FTP link with a list of BIOS updates that I could go through might turn up the correct one, it'll take time but might work.
I dont think Sony are going to be able to help me, I contacted them and told them that had tried the BIOS on the website and they just sent me the link to the same BIOS again, not helpful......

If the supplied BIOS for your model will not install then I wonder if VT has been disabled in your processor.

Yes VT has been disabled. Thats the whole point of updating the BIOS. The processor is VT capable but the restricted sony BIOS doesn't give me the option to enable it.
If I enter the serial number of my PC into the support pages of Sony, it takes me to the page where I can download a BIOS and it even says that the new BIOS gives the option to enable VT. The problem is that the BIOS wont install.
Looks like I will have to flash the BIOS and patch it using an un official patch which many people have done. Would be easier and safer to install a BIOS update from sony tho
