AR51SU downgrade to XP

Hi,

With the absence of a search function I thought it would be quicker to ask this question, though it probably has been asked before.

I am thinking of buying the AR51SU as my, now vintage, GRT916V is showing signs of age. I am, however, not convinced with Vista yet and wonderd if anyone has succesfully dowgraded to XP Pro on the AR51SU?

Any other feedback regarding this model would also be gratefully received.

Many thanks.

Mark

Hi Obokeeper.

Anything is possible - but that is not to say it is wise. Quite honestly the arguments for downgrading have become far less convincing since SP1. There is little difference in performance and stability now.

It is not a simple process and the basics are described by costasp here: -

You must make up your own mind but you will lose any Sony support (as well as use of the TV function, the blu-ray player and all the other preinstalled software like photoshop, Adobe and Roxio)

HI Blencogo,

Many thanks for your comments. I think I will see how I go with Vista and if I experience any major problems I will downgrade, but it does look like you lose a lot of functionality by doing so :slight_frown:

I am ordering it tomorrow so should have it in a couple of days

Cheers
