Hi there,
I have a VGNAR31M laptop and wondered what the 'Full 1080' sticker actually means - it has no Blu-Ray drive, so what can it actually display at 1080 (i.e. what source)?
Is there any benefit watching a DVD on a Plasma screen fed via HDMI from the laptop (rather than from a normal DVD player) - is it 'upscaled' or something?
Thanks
SteveB
Hi SteveB,
All AR-Series are capable of displaying HD Video in 1080i/p format through the HDMI output when connected to a 1080 capable display. The S and ZU models do have a 1900 x 1200 HD screen but other models can only display at 1080 on an external screen capable of that resolution.
If you have a blu-ray drive it is straightforward to import, edit and burn HD content. If you don't have a blu-ray drive then you are limited to HD video imported by USB or Firewire from something like a HD Camcorder - or downloaded HD Video.
But the sticker just means you can output 1080i/p to a display with HDMI.
