My recorder has stopped recording. At first it showed an empty grid, now it says "This function cannot be used now". I have tried scanning for channels with the aerial disconnected then connected but I get zero channels. I can play already recorded programs and the TV itself is not affected.
Is there a software update problem or is the device kaput or is it fixable?
Does anybody have any ideas?
Many thanks.
Is this one of those Sony recorders that have both an analogue and a digital aerial socket on the back? They look the same, and take the same aerial plug, but one can only respond to analogue broadcasts, of which there aren’t any any more.
So it is essential to use the aerial input marked ‘digital’ these days.
I don't know when UK will move Digital terrestrial broadcasting from DVBT to DVBT2, but when it will happen those recorder will not be able anymore to receive the signal (being only DBVT enabled)
Hey,
When you try to tune the channels to the TV directly do you get any channels? as it might be an aerial issue.
But if it's not, why don't you try another cable/port?
Also, reset it, page [150]: https://www.sony.com/electronics/support/res/manuals/3295/32950801M.pdf
Cheers.
Process of elimination . How recently did this start? Do you live anywhere near the transmitter that was damaged by fire if so that may be why you've got an empty TV Guide? When selecting the input on your TV(if it doesn't do it automatically via hdmi) for the RDR output, does the channel change when you press the programme +-button(top right) on the RDR remote? I have a similar model which suffered when there was a local lightning strike but after a few weeks it righted itself(frustrating as i'd bought a new digital tuner for it that i hadn't got around to fitting). When you say you can play already recorded programmes, are these from the HDD or from a dvd?
Hey josephwebber , if non of the suggestions worked, you might want to consider sending it for repair.
