I always turn off the TV power at the wall socket when the TV is not going to be used for many hours.
In the begining the TV would start from the remote when the power was switched on again.
After a few months it began to fail to switch on from the remote. Sometimes the white power light below the screen comes on but the OS does not load. Other times the power light does not light either. The only way to resolve is to switch of at the wall socket for a min and and then on again. Mostly this resolves the problem first go but sometimes it takes more attempts to fix it.
Then the problem went away for a long time. ( Guess there was a software update that fixed it)
Now the problem has returned.
I do remember seeing this issue before, and you're right it was solved with an update.
That said, the best thing to do would be to check you currently have the latest version before trying anything else.

I checked the software and it was 8.13 or something like that.
I have now updated it to 8.229
For some reason despite having automatic update switched on it had fallen behind.
(Why is auto update not working?)
I tried to manually update on the TV via wi-fi but this failed so had to dowmload 8.229 via the PC to a USB and update that way.
Fairly soon after that the TV failed to switch on from the remote even though the TV had been on power for hours without having been used since power connected.
The TV didn't respond at all. No light on the TV.
Turned it off at the wall socket and on again after 30 seconds. Tried the remote again and it worked.
Problem is sproadic.
Seems like it might be an electric build-up of sorts. Try unplugging the TV from power completely (not just turning off the socket) and also disconnect all external cables (DVD player, set-top box, aerial, etc.) for a few minutes. That should be enough to solve this glitch.
Hope this helps!

Still getting this intermittent problem even after the update.
Sometimes the white power light comes but the sony logo doesn't show and the TV is dead.
Other times the power light doesn't come on either.
Maybe one of your external devices is causing an issue with the TV, have you tried using the TV by itself (apps mainly) to see whether that's the case or not?
The only other thing connected to the TV is an Amazon fire stick but I've had this issue from well before I had the fire stick connected.
This problem is still ongoing on a regular basis.
I thought I might be pushing the on button on the remote too soon after switching on the power at the wall.
However, switching on the power and leaving it on for a couple of hours before pressing the on button makes no difference.
Hey Roger_H, maybe it's time to send it for repair. Use this link to locate the nearest service centre: https://bit.ly/3kX5PNf. Are you still within warranty?
