Bravia KDF-E50A12U LCD image ghosting from BDP-S370 Blu Ray player

I have a Bravia KDF-E50A12U LCD TV bought in 2006. I have recently upgraded to a BDP-S370 Blu Ray player. I have tried 2 Blu Ray discs: the BBC's Sherlock and Network's new Space:1999.

The idents on Sherlock play with double imaging/ghosting - but the disc menu's and shows themselves play fine.

The idents, menu and episodes on the Space: 1999 discs all play with double imaging/ghosting.

I have tried connecting the player to the TV in both instances using both a HDMI cable and an RGB cable. The same thing happens with both methods of connection.

Is there some basic incompatibility between the TV and the Blu Ray player that is causing this?

Any answers greatly appreciated (before I go out and buy a new TV 🙂
