Transfer data from DCR-HC22e to PC

I have about 15 hours of footage to transfer. The camcorder is working and i have the original usb cable and charging base. When i connect to a pc, windows 10 does not detect it. Presumably the required driver is not present. But i thought windows 10 could deal with this? I have tried installing Play Memories app but no joy there.

I have seen a suggestion on Sony Support site to use A/V cable to usb, but don't want to buy one if i have the same software issue later. Also have seen a suggestion using firewire but don't have that port on my pc. Does anyone have a suggestion for successfully using the usb cable? Thank you Sony community!

You have to connect the Camera and PC via FireWire (i.LINK, IEEE1394), no Driver required.

No adapter FireWire > USB, don't work.

If you don't have an Input FireWire you can buy and external USB (or ExpressCard) Video Capture Card.

Recording Tape: you can try WinDV (not transfer but recording, you can't import the Tape but you can duplicate the content).

If you have (or Friends have) a Mac, with FireWire 400 Input, cable FireWire 4 PIN <> 4 PIN, if the Mac has 9 PIN Input a cable 9 PIN <> 4 PIN, if the Mac has a Thunderbolt an adapter FireWire <> Thunderbolt.

Camera side FireWire is alway 4 PIN FireWire Out.

Hey smith8,

I would recommend checking these:

https://www.sony.co.uk/electronics/support/camcorders-tape-camcorders/hdr-hc5e/articles/00108201

If this couldn't cut it for you, I'd recommend trying an external capture card. But you're gonna need to do your research on that, to know how they work, and how to use it.

Cheers.
