I have a black banner appearing at the top of my screen during playback of any source.
The banner shows which HDMI port I'm using 'HDMI 1', screen image quality '3840x2160p' and the current time. It's appearing randomly (as far as I can tell) and often constantly (every minute or so for about 10 seconds)
I've performed factory reset and software update.
Does anyone else suffer from this / know how to disengage?
Many thanks
Mike
I have the exact same issue. Started after latest firmware update, V6.7140.
Really annoying, can't even watch a movie.
Any fix on its way?
the info banner can be disabled by the setting for the digital tuning also for the hdmi inputs. In any case it is activated (if enabled) by a change of the audio or video signal .
I got an KD55AG8, so it's not just on the model mikeb7499 got.
Disable it isn't an fix, that's an workaround.. which isn't acceptable tbh.
All this started after firmware update v6.7140, so it's on Sony's side. And sure, it will appear when a signal is changed, so it could be a signal issue.. but highly doubt it as it wasn't a issue before the update.
I can't use my TV right other then using built in apps as they don't use hdmi ports.
So watching movies is off the list.
So please, release an fix for this. Thanks.
Unfortunately I am not your servant. Bye
Thanks. I've been able to disable the info banner but agree this is a work around rather than a fix.
Appreciate your help.
Don’t expect a fix anytime soon. The info banner “bug” has been around for approaching 5 years. We are the lucky ones, the Linux users are not even offered a work-a-round. I am used to disabling the info banner every time I change TV or factory reset.
I havnt had any issues at all with this.. all started with latest update as mentioned.
So something got broken with the v6.7140 update for sure.
That's disappointing to hear @LightFoot .
I've actively avoided buying a major Sony product for more than 2 decades due to their historically poor customer service in the 80's and 90's. I'm very happy with the KD65AF8 performance in general but your comment that they're unlikely to focus on a fix for something as minor as that already makes me think twice about whether Sony's approach has changed in 20-30 years?
On some TVs you can override the info banner by actually setting the audio format to PCM. This way it will remain on the same audio format and not trigger the banner
