Connecting a Bose 3-2-1 Sound System to a Sony KD49XF8577

I have just bought the KD 49XF8577 and connected to my Bose 3-2-1 sound system and I am getting nothing from the Bose speakers. I have searched though all the Sony menus that seem relevant and connected it via hard wire to  the relevant audio output channels on the TV and even bought an optical lead to connect between the 2 devices with zilch success. Am I missing something on the menu or are the two units incompatible which is hard to believe?

Hi, Thanks for this but I have an optical lead from the Bose to the tv with no results but I did not quite understand the “content to system-to your tv” comment. Can you explain further?

Thanks for the response but still no sound out of the Bose. Tried as many
options I could on the tv’s sound menu but still nothing. I must be missing
some option but just do not know what?

I’ve posted a comprehensive reply, which you may have got in an email (?), but it hasn’t appeared here as it has erroneously been classified as spam.

My two key questions, in case you haven’t seen them, are have you chosen Aux on the Bose, and have you set the TV to give PCM out? 

As your rather aging Bose predates all sorts of innovations there have been since....

Not that it is a long-term solution, but it may be worth trying an analogue connection from the TV to the Bose, from phono out or SCART if the TV has these, or the headphone socket should always work, just to establish if you can get any sound at all from TV to Bose.

Hi, Thanks for the response again it is much appreciated as it is frustrating me to bits. I did try the AUX on the Bose plus my initial set up was with phono connections. This was how I connected my Panansonic plasma tv with no issues at all. I have also now tried all your suggestion re PCM etc. I have tried plugging it into the headphone socket from the phono output and yes it does work. But due to the suppression of the headphone socket the output volume is limited and therefore I have to run the Bose at 100% which should be vibrating the plaster off the walls never mind what it could do to an eardrum but only produces low to moderate volume.

I have just posted a request to the Sony Technical team to see what they say but I am getting the feeling that your other inference that the Bose is so old the new technology of the Sony cannot drive it adequately? Please let me know if you have any other suggestion I can try with these two bits of kit?

Have you thought about trying an Optical to Phono converter? Simply search for Optical to Phono on a well known online retailer.

Thanks, I have just looked at such converters and it looks like you need to pay upwards of £20. Pardon my considerable ignorance in such things and before I spend such amount, why will this work when an optical to optical or phono to phone connections do not work?

I don't recommend using converters, I believe their full functionality is not always guaranteed.
