Sony 16mp A37 SLT DSLR Camera Question

I bought this camera recently, i would like to know what the button does located below and in front of the on/off switch, a round sort of button that you can move left or right with your finger.

Thanks.

Hi paulj33a and welcome.

Do you mean the Control Dial? You can check in your manual on Page 13.

Download your manual here: -

As you can see on Pages 92, 95 and 96, this Control Dial is used for several purposes but usually for the following: -

1. To manually set the Aperture in Aperture Priority Mode. Set the Mode Dial to "A" and you can manually choose the aperture you want and the camera will automatically select the correct Shutter Speed. This is useful to choose a wide or narrow depth of field.

2. To manually set the Shutter Speed in Shutter Priority Mode. As in 1 but set the Mode Dial to "S" and you can manually choose the shutter speed and the camera will automatially choose the aperture.

3. In conjunction with the AV button to set BOTH the Aperture and Shutter Speed in Manual Mode. Set the Mode Dial to "M".

If you need any more help, please ask.
