QSI CDRW/DVD SBW242U WILL NOT READ DATA

Hi, can anyone help I have had a complete computer crash and have rebuilt my laptop PCG-FR415b using windows XP Pro SP2 and all update available from MS. all ok.!!!!!
Then I went to the sony site for updated versions of the drivers I found a firmware update for the QSI CDRW/DVD ROM SBW242U this is version US06 from US04 but now the drive does not read any data, so all disks appear to be blank!!!

Can you help please:smileylaugh:

Does the drive report any error messages in device manager?

In that case, as a last resort, try a lens cleaning kit but I fear that the drive is dead.
Did the drive failure happen after the firmware update? If so it may be worth contacting Sony support, as they may be able to provide a 'roll-back' for the firmware.
