Recently my vaio (fs315M) as been extremely slow. This is because the primary IDE Channel reverts to its PIO mode instead of using DMA. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the IDE channel but after about 30-60 mins it reverts back to PIO mode again. I have also tried surpassing this problem by adding ResetErrorCountersOnSuccess in my registry but nothing seems to work. Should i recover my laptop? Can anyone help me out with this cause i really can't use my laptop for just about anything with PIO mode. In eventviewer however, i do get quite a lot of atapi errors event 9 and disk errors event 7 can anyone help me fix my laptop?

If you have repeated ATAPI errors there is probably a hardware defect - the most common being a scratched or damaged disc.

This article may give you some things to try!!!

http://winhlp.com/node/10

Are you still using the original hard disc and the original operating system?
