Recovery on partitioned disk

Hello to all,

I have partitioned the disk into 2 parts with vista's own disk partition tool a few months ago. It caused some problems and, now, I need to perform a recovery. Before recovering with F10, should I merge the two partitions? If so, how?

Hi Ayse1st,

welcome to Club VAIO..

This should restore your HDD partitions back to the original size, then restore the Sony supplied OS and applications.

Either...

Start your Vaio as normal if you can then click Start, All Programs, then Vaio Recovery Center..

Click Continue on the User Account Control window

or

Start your Vaio and when you see the Vaio logo screen press F10 repeatedly this normally would start the recovery process.

Once the Vaio Recovery Center window opens

Select Restore complete system then press Start..

(see blue section below) then follow the recovery wizard..

You can also resize the partitions, then restore the Sony supplied OS and applications.

Then click Skip and Next then follow the wizard until divide your HDD is displayed.

Select Customise Drive Size and enter the size required for the C drive and press Enter.

If you only require one partition then select the whole amount for C drive

then follow the recovery wizard..

Backup important data before commencing...

Unfortunately, there has been some problems while recovering.

After I have restored the complete system to its factory condition, it started to install the vaio programs. The installation froze after 59% of the programs installed. Then I shut down the computer and then restored the whole system again, this time the installation finished correctly.

After that, I installed some small programs like firefox and winrar. Then, I ran msconfig and chose some programs like msn not to start at the beginning. Then, when I restart the computer, it said the windows cannot be started. Then, I restore the system to a previous state by using the options listed on dos screen. After the windows is started, I chose the default settings for startup programs on msconfig. Now, the windows is started but it takes nearly 3-4 minutes after I pushed the start button. Do you have any suggestions about this situation?

Hi Ayse1st,

as you have only installed a couple of programs, rather than trying to identify the cause, I would suggest doing another recovery..

You can stop MSN from launching by doing the following..

Start MSN then click on Tools, then Options and finally General.

Now Uncheck "Automatically run messenger when I log on to Windows"

Then click apply and close MSN..

Hello again,

After I wrote my previous message, I restarted my computer and it installed the windows updates that I downloaded yesterday. And the computer started normally without waiting. Now, it seems to be ok, but if it happens again, I will do another recovery.
