HELP!!

Bought my vaio in december and have had nothing but problems. Windows sometimes fails to load, but more recently, the screen just freezes. This happens at least every couple of days and normally a full system restore will temporarily sort it out. However, there must be a better answer as this is time consuming and means I can't save anything to the laptop. Does anyone know why this is happening and what i can do to fix it?

Also the laptop normally works fine in safe mode plus networking, I haven't downloaded any software or files and rarely use my computer for anything more than internet and solitaire!!

i've spoke to them a few months ago, they wantd 45 pound for recovery discs and were really not helpful

Did they Vaio support not offer you any type of solution as you say you've already done a full system restore.?

Once you completed the system recovery do you install anything on your VAIO, applications, updates, etc.

Hi nic1986,

By System Restore do you mean 'Windows Restore' or the 'Vaio Recovery Utility'?

If 'Vaio Recovery' was this carried out using the recovery disks that you created or the hidden recovery partition? If the former then I suggest that you try tapping F10 at boot (when you see the Vaio Logo) this will hopefully take you to the recovery utility on the hard drive.

Be aware that this procedure will format your hard drive and return your notebook to factory defaults, so backup any data that you need first...

this is similar to what happaned to me. Bought my FW-21e in December and it's already dead! Windows will not load and System Recovery does not work. I tried F8 and F10 buttons on boot, nothing works, Restore C drive - error. I've called Sony support (really unhelpful) and now they say they will pick up my laptop - couldn't give me a clear estimation when it would be ready, and it's likely to cost 120 pounds to just re-install windows!!!
Is it possible? To pay that much, be under warranty, have guarantee, and still be charged for a simple fix that I was Windows is responsible for? Am I crazy or am I being ripped off again???
