SONY DESKTOP PCV-RX302

Can anybody help me please I am a non techie and my CD writer & DVD player do not work. The icons have vanished from "My Computor" & the device manager finds ther drivers but cannot find the hardware. There is power to both as both drawers open.

Does anyone know of a simple remedy?

Hi John and welcome.

I presume it worked previously and has only recently stopped?

If the hardware does not appear in Device Manager - especially if it is BOTH drives - then it seems most likely that the IDE cable has become disconnected or has broken.

Someone will need to take a look inside and see if the cable has become unplugged from the motherboard or the drives.
