Many have complained in this forum, and others, of the problem where the HDMI signal is lost, both when the pc has been into sleep mode and after changes to the AV inputs on the connected tv/monitor. Reference has been made to the 'HDMI problem download'. What is this download file called, and just where do I find it?

(XL301connected to Panasonic TH42PZ85 via HDMI)

The same thing happens if the pc goes in to sleep mode. When it wakes up the screen is blank. In both cases I am told that a signal from the tv to the pc via the HDMI is lost and the pc video card then thinks that there is no HDMI connection and so stops sending the HDMI signal. Is there a download to fix this?

Meanwhile I'll check the WinDVD updates...

If that control signal is dropped (ie when I switch my TV to a different AV input), the Vista/video driver says 'Oh dear, the control signal has dropped so I won't send anything else on that HDMI port' And it never gets out of that state without rebooting the pc.

I must point out that this seems to be an inherent problem within the xl-301. i have tried on several ocassions to address this issue but to no avail. i am currently waiting for a vaio rep to get back to me. The last time i brought this up with Sony this was 'within spec', i.e. the system goes into sleep mode when no tv display is detected. As we know this is not the case, as the only way to wake the system, is to hard reset. to my knowldege only one user has been able to overcome this irratating 'feature' of Sony, and this was by replacing the hdmi graphics card.

the vaio rep has had me play with microsofts TMM settings in device manager, but nothing works. Will update when i hear from him

h4

I thought I had the problem sussed after downloading the SP1 pack but after a week or so my xl301 was back to it's old tricks giving a black screen on wake up and sometimes when switching between TV and computer (AV5). This has irritated me for ages and something you don't expect from a high end machine like the Vaio - I was going to upgrade to a Bluray drive but dread to think what can of worms that will open. I get the feeling that there are few more 301 owners that have been in the same position and wonder if there really is a fix for this - if there is can someone out there let me know....please!

Tony

Unplug and back to compnent and viola. so after speaking to his technicians he's asked me to do a clean install of vista without any updates or additional software. I'm doing this over the weekend (woopee) and he'll call on monday. of course i'll update, but i'm not sure what'll happen. my warranty expired last month but fortunately i rang in before this. i suppose i'll have to see. worst case scenario, one of the guys in the forums suggested a Leadtek hdmi card...hmm...

There is a link to AVS forum where some real heavyweight techies gather and there is an amazing discovery about 1080p and Vista Home which is pure gold in itself, but at the end of the thread was this:

........Another thing I noticed is that sometimes when the system is put on standby or when the TV is tuned away from the XL3 input, there is no video for some weird reason. One way I try to get around this is to press and hold the green power button on the XL3 remote for a few seconds then it kind of re-up itself then display video, I would rather not have this issue. Anyone got any idea or experience with this issue?

This could be what we're looking for?

I'll try it and see.

T

I have a variation of this problem too. Normally, once the HDMI signal has been established I can turn the TV on and off and switch A/V modes without any problems. However, if I let the VAIO go to sleep and then it wakes whilst the TV is turned off, the HDMI signal is lost. The only fix is to reboot the VAIO whilst the TV is on. It would seem that the VAIO (specifically the 7600GTL graphics card) requires that the TV is powered on during video initialisation in order to establish the HDMI signal (could this be because of HDCP?).

I avoid the issue by setting my VAIO to always on - which I prefer anyway. However I still hit the problem if the VAIO reboots whilst the TV is off, e.g. to install updates. As others have said I think the only answer is a new graphics card.

right so John from vaio told me to disable all disable all startup services. as well as this i was to set Ms TMM settings to off, after a clean install of vista without any updates. (hope that makes sense). but raher than a blue screen when i connect with hdmi i get a kind of red and green screen, which is awful. so this hasnt worked (and now i have to reinstall all my applications and programs again. how fun!!!!. but i'll wait before i do this since i'm expecting a call from john in the morning. will update after that.....

That and also making sure you HDMI cable is HDMI 1.3c complainant....
Hope this helps
RSebire

i would disagree. i have tried the tv on/off solution, and the others you sugeested. some might say you're fortunate to have found such an easy fix!

nonetheless i think you may be right in thinking that the hdmi control feature is failing. my system is currently with Sony in Brussels, with their senior technicians who happen to be conversing with Japan also. Its been with them for nearly two weeks, but i'll be patient i suppose.

TBH i'm not really sure what i expect after more than a year of trouble and spending god knows how much on wiring workarounds and other headaches.

will keep you updated
