Hi kfoggo and welcome.

Several things can bring your Vaio out of sleep if you allow them.

1. Check in Device Manager that BOTH your Network Card and your Wireless Network adapter cannot bring your Vaio out of sleep. Double-click on each of the Network Adapters in the Network Adapters section of Device Manager and click on the Power Tab. Make sure that the 'Allow this device to bring the computer out of standby' box is unchecked.

2. Check in Task Scheduler that no program is set to run or update at 3am. You may have Windows Update set to run or some of the TV programs like TVTV try to update the EPG (electronic program guide) in the middle of the night.

The safest answer is to close your Vaio down completely overnight.

Quite often when I turn my computer off at night I just put it into sleep or what I think is hibernate mode (it's really hard to tell). Problem is that it has a tendency to turn itself on again in the night, and I can't work out how, or why. It basically turns on to the black screen where if you press a keyboard button it all comes on as it was when I turned it 'off'. Once somebody came on msn and tried to talk to me and that turned it on but that's not been the case with all the other random switch-ons since. It's not a huge problem, it's just that it would be nice to save on my electricity bill!
