Here is the statement released by Sony in 2009.       <description>&lt;HTML&gt;&lt;HEAD&gt;&lt;/HEAD&gt;&lt;BODY&gt;&lt;P&gt;My VGN FZ21S displays vertical lines, heavily during early boot screens then vestigially whilst running XP&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;Rel-Installed XP . Its still there. I expect it is the BIOS.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;Looking at the advice for updating the BIOS discourages the prudent or timid.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;Has anyone Updated a Phoenix BIOS on a SONY?&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;Wrighlly&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;/BODY&gt;&lt;/HTML&gt;</description>
