Power\lock button does not working

I was at a pool today with friends, and decided to jump into water with my xperia Z and everything was fine, i was in the water few seconds then i got out and hour later jumped again for a few seconds. Everything was.just fine and after 2-3 hrs power/lock button stoped working. The only way to shut down the phone is by voluming up which did started to work like some sort of replica of power button? Should i bring the phone to retailer for fix or this could be softver problem bcause i didnt made an latest update?

open all the flaps and check if the white rectangles are still white or pink or red

Open the rubber flaps and check the led lights, if water has penetrated the phone they shine red if not white. Just to make sure thats not the problem.

The one on top where I plug in headphones is red and on the side both are white? I guess my warranty wont work if the water has entered in to my phone.

you may think me completely mad but the suggestions I made to you earlier are your best bet, whater will not be attracted by anything unless it is physically touching the water - in order for the water to be physically touching the rice you need to create an air flow to move it, if you don't create an airflow the water or moisture will remain inside the enclosure of the phone case and circuitry

If you agree with the above continue reading - if you don't then just stop here and forget about it

To create an airflow through the inside of the phone from one side or end to the other without opening it is quite difficult

1. You need moving air (either blown or sucked)

2. you need an entry and exit point that will allow the air to flow and collect the water/moisture and carry it out of the device, heat helps this process as it helps the water to turn to vapour

So I suggested 2x methods of getting an airflow through your phone

1 Hair dryer which has the advantage of providing some heat to aid the water evaporate but is difficult to connect to the phone and actually get a flow going

2. Vacuum cleaner - the opposite of the above - no heat but has a better chance of getting a good airflow going - you are in a hot climate so this would be my preferred method, up close and even taped to the side of the phone to get a good effect and I mean sealed up taped with maybe a little gap

I have worked with hitech electronics all my life, there is very little I don't know - water itself will not damage your phone but powering it on while there is water inside may

A girlfriend of mine spilt a can of coke on my laptop - before I could turn it off it shut down, and would not restart - I dismantled it and removed the motherboard which had obvious stains of sticky brown goo from the coke, I washed it under the tap with luke warm water and fairy liquid then rinced it of with cold water, I then took it to a local tyre place and blew the water off with compressed air

the laptop is still working today 100% and is about 7 years old

If I'd suggested such a thing to anyone they'd have laughted at me - water is used in pcb manufacture

anyway airflow is your friend in this case the more the merryer - and for as long as you can

then do an update repair and see how that goes

it can't mak it any worse

I didnt have so much problems like the guy on the other post, everything works just fine, i can charge, no white dots, the only thing its not working is power button, which is replaced by voluming up. So i ll try this thing with vacuum cleaner because dryer is too hot i guess.

Thank you for your tip, I'll post it later if i see some changes.

Ok, i tryed with vacuum cleaner and it doesnt work the only thing that has changed is the color of the indicator, two hours earlier it was really red, but now its orange. Is it possible to turn in white so i can go to official sony service and tell them that my button just stop.working, because it was already a bit "shaky" ??

on review if you want the best try at having a working phone then I would suggest removing the back panel and dry it completely with a hair dryer, you will lose the water resistance but at least you will have a working phone or the best chance

fitting the back cover reverse the process, you may want to use a bonding silicon to attach the back again and keep it away from water, test it before putting the back on

right now the water has only affected the power button but over time if not removed I'd say other things will stp working eventually total failure - you must remove the water

You need to give it time. Open all the ports, memory card, sim etc. Put it under a low heat spotlight and leave it there for a day.

I have the same problem with power button...i think its in pushed state all the time so volume up works like power button...will i fix it if i change buttons flex cable?
