You may need to perform a software repair using PC Companion. The process will erase all internal memory. You might need to charge your device for about 1-2 hours before so the device has at least 60% battery.

Make sure the device is not connected to computer or laptop and turned off (sometimes you have to press power button and volume up until the device vibrates 3 times or on some devices you have to press the small button near the SIM tray or on the back of the device).

Open PC companion->support zone->phone/tablet software update->repair my phone/tablet blue highlighted.Follow the steps given,do not connect your phone until prompted to press volume down while plugging USB cable. If PC companion does not start the repair process, you might need to run it in compatibility mode with Windows 7 (in some cases XP).

The reset button on the Z3 is next to the Sim card at the bottom towards the power button but is not red it's more a yellow colour or you can hold power and volume up to reset however if charging doesn't help or none of these thing work then I'm sorry to hear this but you would need to either return your device to the place of purchase or contact Xperia care http://www.sonymobile.com/global-en/support/contact-us/

I had the exact same problem. I was lucky to notice it before My Phone returned to hibernate. It wasn't only the power button, sound - and camera buttons stoped working too.
I was able to keep the display on long enough to get to 'settings' and reset my phone to 'factory settings'. It helped my, but all data is gone. Still like my Xperia, but I do backups regulary now.

I've also tried the tiny yellow button to reset sim with no luck.

An urgent response will be appreciated.

Thank you

Hello to everybody. I have a Xperia Z3 compact with no issues until 2 weeks ago. I did the update to Andorid 6.0.1 and now i have been experiencing a lot of issues.

1. After doing the installation the phone just turned off. I have two wait almosst 3 days to power it on again. No Charging sign, no led light, nothing. I couldn't turn it on after 3 days.

2. After that it worked fine (no issues problems nothing) for 2 days. At night a let it charge for 1 hour and unplug it to finish charge it next day. Unfortunately next day was off. When I plugged in charger the Xperia logo appears, and then the battery icon showing me that is charging also with red led, but no clue why is not turning on after pressing the power button.

3. A week later doing a lot of attemps to work with PC Companion the phone suddenly turn on. Everthing with the phone is working fine but the power button is not working, and the docking magnetic port is not working.

After that experience I read something on the net telling that this Android 6 update did a low level configuration (like BIOS on PCs) that doesn't allow the phone to detect the power button and also the magnetic charging port. In that case I don't recommend to anyone to update to Android 6 on this phone because i have not found any clue to make the power button to work neither the magnetic charging port. By the way, the "double tap to wake" is my only way to use my phone.

I did the charge for 3 hours already and it was a nightmare to turn it on again, and also didn't worked for me.

When i had the Android 5.1.1 working on my phone every function, button, part of my phone was working correctly, and no issues present on my power button and charging port. I take care so much of my phone that I'm surprised with this behavior after the update.

If anyone else knows how to solve it please tell me. Hope somenone knows the right answer for this issue.

Thank you in advance.

By pulling sim out it automatically resets the phone. Having reset your phone your screen should be visible and you can then change the setting to be able to double tap the screen to awaken phone. It's a temporary solution but it's working for me.

But I also have somewhat of a similar problem. my phone's power button isn't working and my battries died so I cant switch on my phone anymore.

I tried power volume up and notting happened. I also tried the yellowish reset button, and when not charging nothing happened, but when it was connected to my laptop it makes a click and it shows the charging percentage. it still doesnt turn on.

is there anything else I can do?

Unfortunately if the power button is not working it is likely to be that the connection from the power button to the internal workings has been disconnected some how. If the phone is turned off there will be no way to turn it back on. Even if you try to reset, as the phone needs to be turned on in order to reset it. If the phone was turned on you can bring the screen on by plugging it in then go to your display settings and turning on the double tap to wake screen feature. My power button stopped working after an accidental severe drop, and it hasn't worked since. So I am not able to reboot, turn off, or take screen shots. But I can still use my phone.

However if your phone dies or somehow gets shuts off, you will not be able to turn it on again. Your best bet is if it's not working send it in for repairs or get a new phone.

Unfortunately these are your only options.
