Xperia Z1 Shattered screen

Hello there,

I bought an Xperia Z1 5 months back and have been using it with a Roxfit case and a scratch guard. Yesterday I ended up dropping the mobile from waist height and ended up cracking the screen, even though the display still works( I can take photos with the camera button) it no longer responds to the touch . I've heard that these mobiles come with a shatterproof screen. So will this damage come under warranty? If not then what should I do next?

Please be aware that it is not a shatter proof screen but an Anti Shatter Film which is the layer of plastic heat sealed over the display to prevent the glass from "Shatering" if it becomes broken. You would however, be best to speak directly with your local Xperia Care regarding any service/warranty questions.

My screen had the same issue. It looked a little less cracked than t yours. Yes the screen is actually the thinest layer of glass I've seen, and Sony obviously felt the need to apply a lamintare before it shipped for sale. There are cases where the screen cracks with slight pressure, and some reports of no contact! The bezel around the Z1 was aluminium, and forced the screen to crack from slight bends and normal pressure in pocket and such.

SONY does NOT offer repair of the screen! ONLY an underwarranty replacement. This is what the support staff told me yesterday. They have failed to call me back as I escalated the case. I did so, as I thought there must be some huge mistake. I am not asking for under warranty coverage. I was asking for the phone to be serviced. SONY CANNOT REPAIR such a cracked screen. Within 5 days I got the phone returned to me. I have yet to hear from a senior support staff regarding this issue.

Sony is offering some of those spontenious "no drop cracked screens" to be eligable for replacement for about $275.

How does one of the largest LCD producing companies that sells TV's and all sorts of electronics produce a screen that is NOT repairable at a cost? How does Sony stand so proud behind a Flagship product that I paid $600 and cannot use within 2 months of owning simply due to a cracked screen?
