Ran Z5 under cold water to get off some dirt... water damaged!

Made sure the flap was closed and just gently ran water on to it..

I then dried it off and noticed the volume bar was acting up and the power button not working..

Of course, water has leaked in but does anyone know if this can be repaired under warranty? Iv had the phone for about 5 months or so..

ALSO to note, when i first had the phone i noticed my battry life was quite poor.. Id have 100% in the morning and literally after a couple minutes use on social media apps im down to 97%.. I DID email sony about this and they sent me an email to do some battry stuff (sorry for the lack of info on that) but the reason I am mentioning this, I have proof that i had an issue from the begining with the battry.. I wonder if they would take into consideration that the phone may have been faulty in the first place?

Iv tried to do a repair form online but when i enter the IMEI number it says inccorect, iv done this about 3 times...

I just dont know if they would repair my phone considering their stance on repairs for water damage, IMEI number not registering and proof that i had issues with the battry or just be like, nope sorry, we cant repair your phone.

Can info would be very greatful..

Thanks

Surely the powers that be that regulate phone legislation should be able to tell vendors that they cannot advertise phones as "Waterproof" and then have clauses in regards to water damage.

This is my only gripe so far - after transferring from a xCover2 & xCover which I used to constantly dunk under water to film and capture images.

After reading some stuff on the forums - I'm not brave enough to do the same on my Z5C - and that has a BETTER IP Rating than either of my previous "WaterRESISTANT" phones.

I feel for you bro.

Edit: Added pic:

http://www.sonymobile.com/global-en/products/phones/xperia-z5-compact/#design

I am skeptical about asking for help on forums with this 'feature' - when I feel as though I should be able to ask for help.

There's stuff for bluetooth that I'm having problems with - but the things I'm trying to do were never advertised as such - so I am happy to go about my way solving my own problems - and I've never posted anything about asking for bluetooth help.
But man, the Water Resistant feature is something that was a make or break deal for me when the first generation phones of IP rated arrived on the market.

I'm just slightly disappointed.

/editendrant

There marketing is an absolute farce..

The thing is i love this phone.. this phone made me want to stick to JUST sony and the 'waterproofin' was the deal breaker for me.

Absolutely dreading sending it in only to hear the worse...

Yeah, I've come from this field before, and most of the time - the engineers and techs mean well - and it's the people up in the corporate offices that come up with these ideas - deciding which is better "proof" or "resistant".... I wish things were just honest.

It's such BS.

I was in working in hardware before - and now I'm studying software. I wanted to bridge the gap - that's only software to hardware - not even device to marketing. But the further I go - I get discouraged, because the places that I want to work- actually probably not just the places that I want to work - but there's bureaucracy everywhere. (I'd never want to work in marketing - I can BS my way around life, but I feel that taking advantage of other people isn't a trait that I want)

EDIT: Honest where you don't expect your consumers to research the intricate details of IP rating and testing requirements

Are you sure that you have water damage? check the water damage indicator inside the flap. if the white turns red it means water did enter the device.

but sometimes water makes the device act up (uncontrolled vibrations, distorted loudspeakers etc), let your device dry for awhile, shake it as instructed on the quick start guide, do not attempt to connect it to accessories and charger.

i battery indicator tends to drain fast while on the 100-80% level, this is not a good basis for battery drain,

the warranty might have covered the battery prob if ever there was one, but since there is the possibility of water damage, the warranty is voided as stated on their terms.

but for further information you can try to contact your local service center; http://support.sonymobile.com/global-en/contactUs/

There are no visible water damage indicators on the Z5. It's only the Xperia z which had these under each flap. The Z5 ones are more likely inside the device.
