Messaging Problem HELP

I have a Z1 my device is up to date.
android ver: 5.1.1

I sent two text messages this morning, and now there are forward slashes showing infront of the numbers and I can't text the numbers anymore. The people have not replied so I don't even know if my messages got sent through. I can't find anything about this, have restarted my phone, no change.

Can you restart your phone is safe mode and see if you suffer the same problem? Try also sending one SMS to a number.

I originally did send one SMS to each number, it shows two because I thought the first one didnt go through so I put the number in again and sent another one. Im afraid to message each number again because I was enquiring about buying stuff from these people and if they are receving my texts, it will be considered spam. I have no problem texting anyone else, just those two that show the forward slashes. I have no idea why the forward slashes are there, I did not put them there, they werent there when I hit send, they appeared after the messages sent. Booting in safe mode, how do I do that? Thanks

Have just rebooted in safe mode and still showing the slashes and unable to send as the images in OP show.

delete all past messages > Install Google Messenger > set it as default > send the messages again and report back.
