I'll just get right to it. When I enter the service menu, it tells me that: unlock bootloader allowed: no. I cannot unlock my bootloader. Now, nobody seems to know of any solutions to this problem. I know it is the carriers that are at fault, but I just want to know if it is *possible* to unlock my bootloader. If not, I will have to return this device for one that is more developer friendly. I love the phone, but can't use it without an unlocked bootloader. Sony needs to fix this.

How can it not be Sony issue? The carrier requests for it to be locked, and Sony locks it. Apparently it can only be unlocked by a registered Sony technician. I am tired of the carriers saying that it's Sony's fault and Sony saying that it's the carriers fault. I just want to know how to unlock the device.

That's who I will contact next. And I did say that the carrier requests it to be locked, but *Sony* is the one that does the physical *locking* of the device, so they must know of a way to unlock the device. I will post the carrier response once I hear from them.

I've seen other similar situations and the carrier agreed and it seems that assume the cost of replacing the motherboard so it can be unlocked, again it's all about your carrier, also, as I have said before, most carriers do this, request bootloaders to be locked.

I sent this email to Sony developer world a few weeks ago, and they haven't responded.

------

Hi there,

I'll cut right to the chase. When I enter the service menu on my Xperia Z2, I discover they rooting status is set to "bootloader unlock allowed: no". This means that I am blocked by Sony from unlocking the bootloader on the phone that *I* own.

Don't tell me it's the carrier's fault (Bell BTW), because I know that you have the tools to change this setting, no matter how complicated the process may be.

I know that this has been done before, as evidenced by this Talk Sony thread a while ago: http://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/Android-development/Bootloader-unlock-allowed-No-SONY-solve-it-please/td-p/181271/page/4

Why is this possible to do for one carrier but not another? This is ridiculous. Why shouldn't I be able to do whatever I want with the device that I paid for? The phone is SIM unlocked and everything.

When Sony no longer supports firmware updates for my Z2, then what can I do? I will be unable to flash any custom roms and will be stuck on whatever version of Android you decide to leave me with! This is a huge security risk number 1, and number 2 it's just a huge inconvenience.

The only way I've heard of this been done is at a service centre as they would need to re-program the eeprom, But if it's to root your device then you may not need to have your bootloader unlocked
