VGN-S1XP - Upgrade from -DVDR/RW to +/-R/RW

As I have been informed today by Sony my VGN-S1XP can only handle -DVDR´s. I have not realized that before buying this machine because at home I have a +DVDR burner and it is not practicable to handle two different kinds of DVD (- and +).

Is it possible to upgrade the burner for - AND + DVD´s??

Sell your S1XP and get the S2XP. Which has got a +/- RW.

Th latest firmware upgrade for the S1XP (Matshita) optical drive gives added support for readability of a DVD+R Dual Layer Single session Finalized disc. At least gives some consolation! S1 and S2 are basically similar machines with just the processor, hard disk capacity and the mentioned DVD+RW difference. In due course, it may be cheaper to simply replace the optical drive with DVD +/- RW than to sell the machine and buy the S2XP.
