Sony 2.8/70-200GM problems

After 1.5 years of use my Sony 2.8/70-200mm GM started to give a pitching noise when the camera is turning on. There were no further problems, thus I didn't made serious concerns. Now, after few months later, the lens turned to be dead, it did not start up, the focus was not moving and there was no apperture control.  After turning the focus ring a couple of times made the lens to start, but I'm now more concerned to go with a lens for shooting which can fail any time. Did anyone experienced a similar problem? How much the repair could cost approximately? In addition, the focus ring rubber went off. I'm quite upset about the mechanical quality of this lens as it is supposed to be a professional one with the corresponding price tag, and I had no problems with the Canon 2.8/70-200mm L  IS for more than 10 years.
